Volunteer Doulas for Military Families

Operation Special Delivery coordinates doulas with women whose husbands are away in military service, or who have died in military service. UPDATE: you do not have to be CAPPA-certified to participate, you only need to be able to verify that you've taken a doula course. See comments...

This is such a wonderful program, but I sometimes feel that it is unfair to doulas who wish to volunteer but aren't CAPPA certified. I myself am not CAPPA certified but have been a doula for two decades and I would love to volunteer to assist military wives through labor and postpartum...but don't see a directory to put my name on so that they may easily find me.

From their FAQ:
1. Do I need to be a CAPPA member to become an OSD doula?

No. We do not require you to join CAPPA in order to serve the military families. If you choose to expand your certifications and trainings though, you can become a member of CAPPA to pursue other childbirth and postpartum avenues to supplement your doula practice and education.

CAPPA offers many certification and evidence-based training programs that will help your doula practice and ultimately help the military families that you serve through OSD.

2. Do I need to be a Certified Labor Doula to serve as an OSD doula?

No. Certification is not required but you must have proof of attendance at an approved labor doula training.
